• Use sparingly - they add to download time
• Keep as small in file and physical size as possible
• Don't use for navigation graphics if there are going to be several languages - high maintenance
• Always put width and height specifications in the img src tag - speeds up download time
• Always put border="0" in the img src tag or some browsers will display a blue border around the image if it becomes a link
• Always specify meaningful alt text in the img src tag - some people switch off graphics in their browsers
